Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I never got the email directed to my home email address. I've recently been digging deeper and have found the following link that lines up with a Lorenzo Bona - any connection with your Lazzaro Bona?

Here is a partial translation:
Maria de la Concepcion Bona Hernandez was born on December 6, 1824 in Santo Domingo. Her parents were Ignacio Perez Bona (Signature # 90 of the National Independence Manifesto) and Juana de Dios Hernández, who was a cousin of Josefa Brea Hernandez, wife of the patrician Matias Ramon Mella.

Ignacio and Juana also had ten more children, including Agatha, who married the hero Francisco Saviñón Piñeyro, who were both godparents of Juan Pablo Duarte. They are also the grandparents of poet Saviñón Altagracia.

Ignacio was the son of Lorenzo Bona, a career soldier born in Genoa, and from an ancient family of Piedmont Italy, where the Bona surname originated. With thirteen years of service in the Regiment of Naples and nine years in the army of the Bourbons, Lorenzo Bona participated in the defense of the Plaza de Melilla (1774), in the attack of Gibraltar (1782), in the Fixed Infantry Regiment of Puerto Rico (1794) at Santo Domingo, defending it until 1801, when he died as a result of the atrocities of Toussaint Louverture, being put to the sword in the lagoon of Azuey with other members of the Regiment.

Evertyhing I'm finding now indicates that the Bonas were a noble family with deep roots in Piemonte, centered around the town of Casale Monferrato which is in the general area of Postalesio.
