Hi Krisiti,

I've heard the rumor that the Boeve's are descended from French Huguenots as well, but haven't found anything to substantiate this.

I've personally been able to document the family back to Lubbert Claesen, who married Harmje Everts in 1672. Both were of Wapenveld, Gelderland, Netherlands.

This is the tree from Lubbert:

Lubbert Claesen, married in 1672 ("of Wapenveld")
- Gerrit Lubbers, b. 1692 in Wapenveld, Gelderland, Netherlands
- - Herman Gerrits, b. 1722 in Wapenveld, Gelderland, Netherlands
- - - Hendrik Herms Boeve, b. 1762 in Hattem, Gelderland, Netherlands
- - - - Jan Boeve, b. 1804 in Heerde, Gelderland, Netherlands
- - - - - Hendrik Boeve, b. 1831 in Wapenveld, Gelderland, Netherlands

You'll notice that Hendrik Herms Boeve, born in 1762, was the first to use the surname "Boeve". Prior to that, they used the traditional naming structure where the son uses the father's first name as their last. So I'm not sure where "Boeve" actually came from. At that point it would have been between 100 -

Huguenots first left France in the mid-1500's and continued emigrating through the 1600's. So from a timeline perspective, it's certainly possible. But I haven't found anything to indicate that the Boeve's are of Huguenot descent.

I just did a quick Google search and came across this posting, which is interesting. Someone has found a Boeve that left France, but we don't know if they're the same family that we're descended from. I just added a post to see if she has any insights she might share with us, based on our family tree.
