James William Bisenius, son of John and Helena (Dahlhauser) Bisenius, was born August 14, 1924, in Whittemore, Iowa. He received his education at Presentation Academy in Whittemore.
On April 5, 1948, Jim was united in marriage to Lois Leuer in Mallard, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Jim and Lois made their home in Emmetsburg where Jim served as Deputy Sheriff for Palo Alto County from 1949 until 1959. He then became licensed in insurance and real estate and began operating Bisenius Real Estate and Insurance. Jim also did credit reporting and collecting as well as establishing a Detective Agency. Jim stayed active in insurance and real estate until 2009, when he retired.
Jim was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg. He was a member of the Realtors Association and had served on the Emmetsburg City Council. Jim was one of two individuals that established the Kiwanis organization in Emmetsburg and was a great promoter of this group.
Jim loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and playing a round of golf. He was an ardent sports fan, supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their sporting events.
Jim passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe and Bert Bisenius; and four sisters, Leona Thompson, Sally Joynt, Helena Laubenthal and Rita Bisenius in infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Emmetsburg, IA; his children, James J. Bisenius and his wife, Jane of Schaller, IA, Jerry T. Bisenius and his wife, Peg of Atkinson, NE, Linda M. Thompson and her husband, Clint of Twin Lakes, IA, Donna Vala and her husband, Tim of Portland, TX and Rick Bisenius and his wife, Candy of Emmetsburg, IA; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, John J. Bisenius of Citrus Heights, CA, Frank Bisenius of Wallingford, IA, and Ed Bisenius of Florida; two sisters, Mary Montag of North Carolina and Lu Sparks of Hyattsville, MD; as well as many other relatives and friends.
