I am doing some research on my Barstow side.

My grandfather was John Albert Barstow. His father was George Washington Barstow. George Washington Barstow was 1 of 8 children of Andrew Martin Barstow & Mary M. Berger. Mary M. Berger was my 2nd great grandmother (married to Andrew Martin Barstow).

Mary M. Berger b. 28 Feb 1834 d. 1870

There is an 1850 Census which lists a Mary Berger (age 16) as a daughter of a John & Margaret Berger.

However, some trees show her as the daughter of Johannes C. Berger & Margaret Hess.

There is a tree posting of a document about Jacob Berger, Sr. and his children. The document also cites that John Berger (son of Jacob, Sr.) was married to Margaret Peggy Hedrick.

Another tree shows a Johannes “John” C. Berger (1797) & Margaret Hess as Mary M.’s parents, with her father Johannes “John” C. Berger (1762) as the son of Johannes “John” Berger & Maria Elizabeth Keck, and his father as Jacob Berger (1745).

Need to know if Mary A. Berger parents were John Adam Berger & Margaret Peggy Hedrick, or Johannes C. Berger & Margaret Hess?

According to FindAGrave, Jacob Berger is listed, as well as his wife as Christena C. Cooper. FindAGrave also lists the children of Jacob & Christena to include a John Adam Berger (1777-1783) who married Margaret Peggy Hedrick.

However, when linking on FindAGrave to John Adam Berger, his children listed do not include a Johannes C. Berger or a Mary A. Berger. However again, the 1850 census shows a Mary Berger as the daughter of a John & Margaret Berger.

Beyond wanting to have my tree correct, it is most interesting that the Jacob, Sr. was an Am. Rev. Patriot. I am already a member of SAR on my other side (Hart, who married a Barstow), but would like to establish if I am also a descendant of Jacob Berger, Sr.

One other piece of info that was shared with me is the following posting:

Name: Mary M. Berger
Sex: F
Birth: 28 FEB 1834
Death: 1870 in About. Licking County, Ohio.
Burial: McClean County, Ill.
Note: Mary became ill and was taken to a convent for medical care. She died at the convent when her daughter Cora May was quite young. Information is from Darrell A.
Godfrey/ Mary Berger died in McLean Co., IL, but the date has not yet been documented. One of her granddaughters remembers talking to Cora May
Barstow (Thompson) in the mid 1940's about Mary Berger (Barstow), Cora May stated that she was a young girl when her mother grew ill. No hospital was nearby, so the
family took Mary to a convent, where the nuns administered what medical assistance that they could. Cora May stated that her mother died at the convent, probably c. 1870.
She also remembered that the nuns were very strict with her and all of her Methodist brothers and sisters.
