Morris Joseph Curcio, 87, of West Hazleton died Sunday evening at the Manor in St.
Luke Village, Hazleton, follow­ing a lengthy illness.
Born in Hazleton on July 7, 1921, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Toleri­co) Curcio and spent his entire life in the area.
Morris served his country in the Army dur­ing World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, West Hazleton, where he took an active role in his church serving as collector and usher.
In 1955, Morris started his own business, Curcio TV Sales and Service, which he operat­ed until retiring in 2000. Dur­ing that time, between the years of 1973 and 1983, he served as truant officer for Hazleton Area School District.
Most recently, he was employed as a greeter for Wal­Mart, Hazleton.
He held a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus and was a member of West Hazle­ton Improvement Club, West Hazleton Lions Club and Serra Club.
In addition to his parents, Morris was preceded in death by brothers, Anthony, Angelo and Abraham Curcio; and a sister, Josephine Ritsick.
Surviving are his wife, the former Violet Bera, with whom he recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversa­ry; a son, Joseph Curcio, and his wife, Murielle, San Jose, Calif.; daughters, Brenda Con­way and her companion, Tom Westenburg, Drums; and Mary Beth Cantena and her hus­band, Dr. William, Melbourne, Fla.; and grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Pop-Pop,” Michael Matricci­no, Daniel and Sarah Curcio and Dominique and Francesca Catena.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church, 544 N.
Broad St., West Hazleton. The Rev. John Ruth will officiate.
Burial will take place in Cal­vary Cemetery, Drums.
Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
