Gerald Ben Belcher, age 77, of Greeneville, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
He was born in Alcoa, TN, attended Alcoa High School and graduated from ETSU in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.
He began his career as a teacher in Shawnee, Ohio, and taught at Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport. He was a Vice-President and Office Manager for Home Federal Savings and Loan Association for 30 years, working at offices in Kingsport, Rogersville, Greeneville, and Morristown.
He was preceded in death by his parents: A. T. and Vergie Isbill Belcher; a brother, Gordon Belcher; and sisters: Merle Belcher Lyle and Thelma Belcher Low.
He is survived by Diane Belcher, his wife of 52 years; a daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Tim Stroud of Greeneville; son and daughter-in-law: David and Lisa Belcher of Limestone; seven grandchildren: Trent and Mandi Stroud of Los Angeles, CA, Michael Nakamine and Lauren Belcher of Knoxville, Anna Stroud of Greeneville, Caleb and Erin Morrison of Limestone; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct military graveside services.
The family will receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 1 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour preceding the service.
