PLATTSBURGH — Floyd Joseph Beebie, 95, of Cornelia Street in Plattsburgh, died peacefully in the presence of family on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington, Vt.

He was born on May 28, 1906, in Mooers, N.Y., son of Abel and Mary (Riel) Beebie.

Floyd graduated from Mooers Central High School and after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, became an accountant for several area businesses.

He was also employed as an auto parts salesman for H.E. Atwater, retiring at the age of 70.

Floyd was a very active member in the Plattsburgh community. He was a life member of both the Elks Club and the American Legion and a member of the Clinton County Senior Citizens. He was also a long-standing member of the men's Wednesday Night Handicap Bowling Club.

An avid New York Yankees fan, he could often be seen wearing their baseball cap at local functions. Well-known for his tenor singing voice, Floyd won many area singing competitions and performed with the Elks Club Quartet and the Plattsburgh Barbershoppers. In addition, he was a past member and soloist for St. Peter’s Church Choir and a member of the First Friday Club.

Floyd was a loving husband to Ruth (Gonyea) whom he married on Aug. 7, 1939.

Ruth, his father, Abel, mother, Mary, and brothers, Kenneth, Douglas and Earl predeceased him.

He is survived by two brothers, Eugene and Conroy Beebie; and two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Susan Beebie of West Chazy and Stephen and Jody Beebie of Averill Park; as well as two granddaughters, Christine Perez and Lauren Banks; and grandson, Jeffrey Beebie.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at noon at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
