Ottawa: 3 teens held in drive-by shooting death

Ottawa police arrested three teenaged boys Wednesday after a series of drive-by shootings Sunday that left a British engineer dead.
The three suspects are from Ottawa and cannot be identified because they are minors.
They were expected to be charged in the death of Nicholas Battersby, 27.
The youths, who put up no resistance when officers pulled over their stolen vehicle, were known to police.
"They've been involved in other offences before together, but nothing really major," Police Chief Brian Ford said.
Investigators say they believe the youths were not involved in gang-related violence and may have been joy-riding in a stolen 1993 Jeep.
"We're reasonably satisfied it was a random shooting," said Supt. Brian Skinner, one of the investigators.
Two grocery stores and a restaurant in the city's west end were hit by bullets Sunday evening.
Less than half an hour later, Battersby, who recently began working for Bell Northern Research, was shot as he walked home along Elgin Street, about six blocks from the main police station in downtown Ottawa.
"We have a considerable string of events....evidence which ties them to the vehicle which we have recovered," Skinner said. "And we have evidence which puts the vehicle at the scene of the shooting on Sunday night."
A fourth youth is in custody in connection with another stolen vehicle. Police have not ruled out further arrests.
