I am researching the Basaldua/Basaldu family.
According to Ancestry.com, the Basaldu/Basaldua name is Basque: habitational name from Basaldua in Urduna, in Biscay province, Spain. It also is a topographical name from BASO= meaning, 'wood' or 'forest' + ALDU= meaning 'high' + the definite article -a on the end. Thus, high forest.
According to Gary Felix, the Bazaldua name can be found in New Spain, Northeastern Mexico, by 1691. Gary also states the the area of origin is Basque.
My ancestor is Franciso Basaldua/Basaldu, born September, 1840, Mexico. He married Santos Perales, around 1860/63. She was also born in 1840. Both are buried in Encinal, La Salle County, Texas. They were natuarlized in 1868. I have not been able to locate the parents of Francisco Basaldua/Basaldu in Mexico.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks so much,
