The All Banks DNA and Compilation Project is happy to announce that confirmed DNA profiles are now available for most of the Banks persons in the U.S. of European Ancestry. Progress has been made is obtaining British participants as well.

So far 20 different Banks DNA profiles have been found. All those with the same DNA profile are related, and a DNA profile for a large family grouping can be confirmed with only one or two particpants' samples.

The overall goal is to determine localities in the British Isles where each Banks family originated. In addition, those who have run into dead-ins in their ancestral research can be put back on track by locating other related families with known, long pedigrees.

Those families now with participants are the following:
(1) Adam Bankes of 1600s Stafford Co., Virginia, USA and early families of Wigan, Lancashire
(2) William Bankes of 1600s King & Queen Co., Virginia USA
(3) Banks families of early Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania, USA and related Maryland family (for example, Edward, b. 1772)
(4) n.e. Lancashire, England family (Colne, Briercliffe) with emigrants to Utah, USA
(5) Richard Banks family of mid-1700s Philadelphia, PA, subsequent families in Gloucester & Cumberland Cos., NJ and then families in Paulding Co., Ohio and Carroll Co., Virginia
(6) Charles Banks family of mid-1700s Edgefield Co., South Carolina, including Elisha Fowler Banks family of "wiregrass" Georgia and others in Newton Co., Georgia
(7) the Gilmer County, Georgia family from early 1800s Buncombe Co., N. Carolina
(8) John Banke of 1600s Eccleston, Lancashire, with family later in Shropshire and Staffordshire.
(9) the Banks families of early 1700s eastern N. Carolina, such as Craven Co.
(10) Levi "Sandy" Banks who came in early 1800s from Franklin Co., Georgia to s.w. Mississippi
(11) the Bankses of Bedford Co., Virginia in late 1700s who were later in Adair Co., KY, Stokes Co., N. Carolina, Warren & Coffee Cos., Tennessee and various Indiana counties.
(12) the Bankses of Warcop, Westmorland, with some descendants later in Kansas.
(13) Richard Bankes who came in the mid-1600s to York Co., Maine from Alkham, Kent
(14) the Thomas Van Buren Banks family of mid-1800s Darlington Co., S. Carolina, USA
(15) A very diverse family consisting of most of the families of s.e. Kentucky and western N. Carolina. The oldest is David Banks of 1700s Brunswick Co., Virginia. This includes the DeKalb Co., Tenn. Bankses and those in Coweta & Fayette Cos., GA and some who were in Abbeville Co., SC., including Winston and Pleasant Banks of the early 1800s.
(16) the Banks family of Carter Co., Tennessee and Newton Co., Missouri in early-mid 1800s.
(17) William Banks of late 1700s Worcester Co., Massachusetts, then Keene Co., N. Hampshire, & families of Story Co., Iowa, Webster Co.,Nebraska. This is probably also the profile of Speaker of the U.S. House, Nathaniel P. Banks of Middlesex Co., Massachuetts.
(18) John Banks of mid-1600s Fairfield Co., Connecticut
(19) Solomon Banks who moved from S.C. in early 1800s to Tenn with some of family in later southern Illinois.
(20) A family that moved from Abbeville Co., SC to Richland Par., La., Miss and Tex in the 1800s.
(21) The Bankses of Lurriga, Co. Limerick, Ireland.
(22) James Banks from England who settled in Chester Co., Pennsylvania in mid-1800s.

Several of these are suspected to be adoptions that is why only 20 are confimed and one is pending. Several families need another sample for better verification of the profile.

Any male born with the Banks/Bankes/Banckes surname is welcome to order a sample to add to the knowledge of relationships. In some cases, Ray Banks will pay for the testing, and he is happy to explain whether your family profile has already been determine.
