Well, you never know. From what I can tell, the only place in Europe where this name derives is in Corleone, Sicily.

On my trips there I met with Franco Badami, who owns a nice clothing store and he turned out to be a blood relative. He and a local professor explained that there are many clans with the Badami name, distant enough for intermarriage. Of, course, marriages between first cousins are very common in Sicily, which unites the clans as it does in the Middle East. It is interesting that the name is also seen in Iran, other parts of the Middle East, and in India. In fact, there is a very historical town named Badami in India. The Arab culture and blood is very deeply woven into fabric of the Sicilian people, in fact the name "Corleone" (lion heart) evolved not from Latin but from the name the Arab's gave to the town, "Qurlayun."

The Badamis we met in Corleone are fine people, very gracious, and they invited us to stay in their home. If you have not been there, you will really enjoy it.
