The information I have on Catherine is that she was born about 1773, probably in South Carolina, d. 8 May 1854 at age 81, buried in Minosa Grove Cemetery, near Norwood, East Feliciana Parish, LA, married Ruckins Jelks (b. ca. 1771 in NC, d. ca. 1820). They had a number of children: William A., b. ca. 1792; Mary "Polly," b. ca.1795, m. William Bethany; Elizabeth, b. ca. 1797, m. Daniel Boatner; Sarah Ann, b. 26 Jan. 1801, m. 1st William J. Boatner, m. 2nd Zachiah Freeman; Frederick A.; Pamela Andrews, m. 1st Richard Mallet, m. 2nd her cousin William M. Jelks; Leah/Lenora, m. Matthew Gaulden; and your Robert Jelks, m. Henrietta Jane Lenoir. This family left central South Carolina in the mid to late 1790's and settled in Spanish Feliciana along with other Carolina families, such as my Dortch family, who had been their neighbors in South Carolina. Rukins patented 400 arpents of land on the west bank of Alexander's Creek about four miles north of the Mississippi River in August 1798, although he was in the province some time before. His neighbors included several of my Dortchs who were close friends if not kinsmen. Ruckins sold this land to Patrick McDermott 17 Jan. 1814.
In 1853, Catherine was living near Kellertown in East Feliciana Parish, LA, and was residing with her daughter Sarah Jelks Freeman's family. She made out her will 1 July 1853, leaving slaves to her daughter Mary Jelks Bethany, grandchildren, etc. (Ref. East Feliciana Conveyance Book O, pp. 170-171; Probate Book C, pp 358, 371-372; Probate Book D, pp. 83-84)
