It sounds like we have the same Samuel Allenbaugh as an ancestor. I can probably add some information to what you already know. For instance, the pitstop in W. Virginia that you mentioned was actually Virginia. He lived in Rockingham County, VA between roughly 1835 and 1848. Also, the census for 1850, 1860, and 1870 all indicate that Samuel was born in Virginia rather than Maryland. There were a number of other Allenbaughs (Allebaugh, Alebough, etc.) in Rockingham County as well. Some of the forenames are John, Jacob, David, and Christian. I have yet to make a definitive link between these gentlemen and Samuel
He did live in Maryland, however, because George, Mary, and John were all born there. The census also indicates that Anne Marie (I didn't know her maiden name) was born in Pennsylvania. The family packed up and moved to Cumberland County, Illinois between 1847 and 1850. I am descended from Samuel's son Samuel (whose middle name is Summerfield). Samuel S. served in the Civil War before moving to Kansas and then Oklahoma during the land rush.
I love to share information with you or anyone else that is interested in this family. I can be reached at
