I am looking for information on how my Y-DNA matches Aker and not Hale. A cousin also took a Y-DNA test and they also do not match Hale, they match the same Aker I do. Two other cousin’s I discovered through ancestry research are related to brothers of my great grandfather, told me they were told as young children they were not Hale. They were told an Aker was taken in by a Hale family and changed their name to Hale.
I took an autosomal Family Finder DNA test and a person I was matched with as a 5th cousin indicated they had Aker in their family tree. These Aker are:
Wife ELIZABETH JACKSON born January 18, 1805 in Wythe Co, VA, and died September 08, 1886 in Wythe Co, VA.
Susan Jane Aker
Mary Elizabeth Aker
All the above daughters were born and died in Wythe County, VA.
I believe that George Aker and Elizabeth Jackson also had sons, but this family tree did not list them.
My great great grandfather, John Hale, list his birth place as Wythe County, VA on a birth listing for a child, Brackenridge Hale born 1861 in Magoffin County, KY. But, according to Wythe County Historical Society no Hale family was in Wythe County during the time that it is thought that my great great grandfather was born (about 1815). Would you have any information on Aker that may have been taken in by a Hale family either in Wythe County, VA or any of the counties surrounding Wythe?
Thanks for any help.
