HiJunebugr
this is interesting.....Im very interested in the origins of the Ainscough name and this sheds new light on a French connection. Up until now our links have led us to Scandinavian/ Viking origins. However, I have found online there is no reason why ther cannot be a Scandinavian/ French/ English link. Do you have any evidence to support the translation of the name Ansgot to Ainscough? Ansgot is quite easy to trace on the internet with many noble Mediaeval families bearing the name and also a place in France. I look forward to your reply.
