There is a family story that my great-grandmother Josephine Buehler (1886-1955) used to boast that her cousin was "a bishop in Switzerland." Her father was John (Johann?) Bieler or Buehler, a tanner, b. 1843 or so, who arrived in Detroit in the late 1860s. I have found references to Bishop Viktor Bieler (b. Termen 1881, d. Sion/Sitten 1952) which make sense chronologically. I would be grateful if anyone could provide more information about Viktor Bieler's origins so that I can see if he really is a relative.
