My pleasure. And I so wish I had ancestors from Meaux too but my grandparents only came in Seine-et-Marne after or during WWII so nothing to look for before that. Meaux is definitely a major town of this departement, the most populous in fact, old history of course (back to the Gauls), nice cheese (brie de Meaux) and city of Bossuet (bishop of Meaux and famous orator of the last 1600's: I worked there for a few summers and always had the feeling the weather was a little colder and greyer than at home (1 hour south), you could see it changing during the ride.

Still, being a notary there, must be a comfortable position. The link I gave you focused more around nowadays notaries but at this time, they were even more in contact with the population as you'd go see them for every little contract and transaction possible. Wills (even poor people did one), marriage contracts, house inventories after death, apprenticeship contract, loans, rents or sales, etc. Almost anything you can think of, they had a deed prepared.

Some explanations about the occupation history and the type of documents they drafted up (in French):

Bonnes recherches !
