I am quite confused by the Swedish way of naming people. I'm learning, but it is hard!
Here is one thing I cannot imagine the answer to. Here's an example followed by the questions:
The name of my husband's great-great-grandfather's father was Sven, and when I found him on a passenger list coming here, he went by Nils Edvin
When he first got to the USA was Nils Edvin Andersson Svenson.
He dropped the Svenson shortly after he got here.
I notice that about 10 years later, he had anglicized it a bit to Nels Edwin Andersson.
A few years later, I came across a few official documents where he was going by Edwin Nels Andersson,
And about 5 years later, it was Nels Edwin Anderson.
So, my question is this: Should I change his name as he did, over time and reflecting when he went by which name? Or pick one and use it from day 1?
