Wow - thanks thoraway! This is breathtaking!

The parents on the birth record for Kaja Sophie Pettersdatter match the parents on the death record for Carrie Sophia Nordin. Also you found that same Kaja immigrating in 1898, which matches all four USA records that list Carrie's date of immigration. This is definitely "her." Yay!

And yes it's impossible to know what you're looking at in a Norwegian record if you don't have information from the USA - the person in the USA and the person in Norway have to "match."

1865 Norway census was taken before Carrie was born. May I post it, from the link you provided (I am a big fan of transcriptions, which make the information in a record searchable in this forum):

Hadsel, Nordland, Norway
* Petter Amundsen hf [=husfader] occupation Gaardbr. Selveier Fisker [a kind of farmer? and also a fisherman], g [ = married] age 26, male, born in Hadsel -- born about 1839
* Johnette Sivertsdatter, hans kone [= his wife], age 26, female, born in Hadsel
* Antonette Pettersdatter, Deres Datter [= their daughter], unmarried, age 6, female, born in Hadsel
* Eilert Pettersen, Deres Søn [= their son], unmarried, age 4, male, born in Hadsel
* Bergitte Pettersdatter, Deres Datter, age 3, female, born in Hadsel
* Laurits Helmersen, Pleiesøn [= foster child], unmarried, age 11, male, born in Hadsel
* Elen Pedersdatter, Tjenestepige [ = servant], unmarried, age 22, born in Vaagen

And that brilliant find of a birth record thoraway posted:
1866 church book in Hadsel
Record No. 77
Date of birth: 03 June 1866
Date of baptism: [ID? Ibid? meaning 09 September]
Child's name: Kaja Sophie
Legitimate birth: Yes
Parents: Gbr [=job title] Peter Amundsen Selaater [? place name] and Jonette Sivertsd-.-
Baptismal sponsors/witnesses: the father, Jens Eilersen Somerh [?], Anne Sivertsdatter - ibid [= ditto; she's from the same place], [another name, Halene? ibid]
[last column I cannot read]

and the emigration record:
Registered to emigrate from Trondheim 10.08.1898
Kaja Peters. Huseby
ug [= ugift, meaning unmarried]
Occupation: Arb [a farm type job title]
Female, age 32
Residence: Hassel [= Hadsel?]
Destination: Lisbon N. Dakota [= Lisbon, Ransom, North Dakota]
On the ship Tasso of the Beaver line, ticket paid in America?

So Carrie was destined for the same location as Anna's mother Suniva.

From your findings, thoraway, we can see that "Mrs. Albert Aasland" (Anna) had a mother Suniva Amelia Eliassdatter who was born in Hadsel, Nordland, Norway, and emigrated as a young woman to Lisbon, Ransom, North Dakota. Carrie was Kaja Sophie Pettersdatter born in the same place The two women could have known each other in Norway, or their families could know each other. Anna and Carrie could even be related (need more research to know about that). When Carrie was an aged widow in her late eighties, she seems to have moved from her home to the town where Anna lived, suggesting the relationship of the families might have been a close one. Anna was likely the informant on Carrie's death record.

I wonder if a daughter Petra is born to Peter Amundsen and Jonette Sivertsdatter after Kaja/Carrie. A Petra Pettersen is living with Peter and Carrie Nordin in one census record.

Again, great work. Thanks so much for stepping in!
