Ah...the DNA test again. These tests "allegedly" will tell of ancestry back through the mothers lines with accuracy. And, I won't dispute that premise.

But, the test results are not taking genealogical history or information into the information given to the tested.

Last name..."Moody". This is the problem of the explanation. There was no real last names in Norwegian history for a long period of time. The naming practices involved a "Given Name", such as Ole. If Ole's father was "Ivar", he would have been "Ole Iversen/Iverssen/etc. There was no real last name. There "last name" was their "address", where they lived. If Ole Iverssen lived on the Stenbakken farm, his name would have been "Ole Iverssen Stenbakken".

To learn about this patronymics, and other things Norwegian
go to http://www.nndata.no/home/jborgos/jborgose.htm
and read the articles in the second column on Surnames, first names and farm names.

You can also go to: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/index.html
and go to "my articles"

I would also highly recommend the Norway List: http://www.rootsweb.com/~norway/NorwayList.htm

It has a mailing list is where you should can subscribe to the messages at that link. The messages not only are from people all over the world, but help each other finding their lost families and discuss almost anything Norwegian, foods, culture, travel, etc. I am just one of hundreds around the world that help people like you. Unlike a lot of these Rootsweb message boards, you are among those that really dig to help. Newbies are welcome and never ridiculed (against the rules).
