Does the name Moddi even exist in Norway? My fathers ydna states clearly via all sorts of testing that we anciently came from Norway and the Bergen area lights up heavily in his dna test results as well as my own. Our line we know lived in Scotland, Orkney Islands and the mainland Scotland and eventually to Nor. Ireland and then Nova Scotia and Maine, USA etc. We have ydna "cousins" all over the globe from New Zealand to Canada. I read a long time ago that a Robert MODDI from Bergen, Norway had family. Does anyone know if descendants from his line have been ydna tested?
Since the old names seem to take on the father's first name, something like if John had a son then he would be named "John's-son" thus perhaps becoming Johnson.
But his dna would not show up under Johnson but under another surname. How does one sort this out?
It may very well be that my family links to a line in Norway but I have no way of figuring that out due to the old name designations. Thank you for any suggestions.
