I would also be interested in knowing more on this topic. My great-grandfather, Alexander Daniel (or Danielus) is in several family photos taken in Siauliai from just before and after 1900 in a military uniform. Since the family owned a mill, I'm guessing he was an officer. I would like to know where he would have gone through training, and what his duties might have been. I don't think he was assigned to any distant duties because he fathered five children between 1897 and 1909. However, during the uprising of 1905-06, he must have seen some active duty. Where might there be records of Russian military officers?
