To PLondahlsmid1: Besides the middle name, this sounds very similar to him! I will have to look into this "Carl Edward Bern"...
To falsterden: I do not found his death certificate. If Carl was married to his Alutiiq wife on Afognak, then I have a copy of the Russian Orthodox Church Records and I will be able to double check and look for the record there. Since he was a foreigner, though, little record of him was kept: he is always just referred to as "American" which makes no sense, but it could've been lost in translation from Russian to English I suppose.
I will look for his death record (thank you for the advice!). However, he wasn't naturalized until 1909, so the first census I have for him is 1920.
Thank you for the translation falsterden. This is my first experience with Danish records, so I didn't know what was said.
My great Aunt did mention that Carl's father worked on the ships. Maybe he followed in his father's (Rasmus') trade? Hmm..
Thank you all for the tips! I really appreciate it. If you have anymore advice, I'd be glad to hear it. Is there anyway to explain why his given middle name would be "Edward" but when he immigrated/was naturalized it is seen as "Otto"?
