It has been interesting to read this thread as a dane!
I can just add a few things:
- What sort of shame it was to have a child before wedding depends greatly on time, the longer back the greater shame.
- There was a penalty not to name the father for the girl, because there was a duty of paying for the child if the father did not marry the mother - that is why it mostly is noted in the parish register. If it was not registered the parish might have to pay!
- Very young women having a child would often let the child stay with her parents.

In my Family I had a somewhat unusual example. My great great grandfather had as a Young man a child with a neigbour girl. The child was raised at his farm as one of his children, that is together with my great grandfather as his older sister. So my great great grandfather got married already having a child... But I think that she felt that she was diffferent. She got herself a child without a father and she the later married and went to America but the child stayed here! In America she had two legitimate children but I cannot trace them (so far...).
