William D. Guerin, lifelong resident of the town of Little Wolf and village of Manawa, died at the Iola hospital, Saturday, March 12, following an operation. He was 65 years, 5 months and 27 days old at the time of his death.
Mr. Guerin was born in the town of Little Wolf, Sept. 19, 1866. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Guerin, Sr., who were among the earliest settlers of this locality, and he grew to manhood in a mixed environment of timber land, small cleared plots of ground changing into tiny farms, and alternate seasons of work at agriculture and logging.
His marriage to Miss Mary Seigworth occurred at Waupaca on Sept. 19, 1884. They lived on a farm in Little Wolf for several years and then moved to Manawa where the family has made its home ever since. Mr. Guerin continued to make his annual trips into northern Wisconsin woods and on the river for different logging companies until only a few years ago.
He is survived besides his widow by six children, Miss Elizabeth Guerin of Manawa, Ruby (Mrs. Geo. E. Storms) of Marion, Phillip Guerin of Iola, Oviatt G. Guerin of Mellen, Viola (Mrs. Harry Stevens) of Manawa, and Robert Guerin of Manawa, one sister, Miss Rhoda Guerin, of Manawa, three brothers, Charles and Joe of Manawa, Barney of Merrill, and eleven grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death. Hannah (Mrs. A.G. Nelson) passed away at Iola on June 26, 1926, and a son, Lee, died at home on September 28, 1925.
The funeral was held at the home in Manawa, Wednesday afternoon, March 16. Rev. John S. Ellis, pastor of the M.E. church here, and Rev. Odegaard, pastor of Norwegian Lutheran church at Iola, officiated. Pall bearers were Wm. Hobbs of New London, L. Quimby, L. Scruton, L.W. Eastling, Wm. Schwan, and Ed Roman.
