Robert Hoppe was three years old when he arrived in Baltimore from Germany on june 1, 1881 on the S. S. Braunschweig. He came with his parents, August & Wilhelmina Hoppe and his brothers Gustave age 4 and John age 1.

The family shortly made their way to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where they built a house on Seventh Street, August got a job as a laborer for the city. Six more children where born here, Louise bn. 1883, Hugo bn. 1885, Elsa bn. 1888,
Alma bn. 1891, Helen bn. 1893, and Walter bn. 1896.

Robert Lived at home until 1900, on March 27, 1900 he declared his intention of becoming a U.S. citizen. He was 21 years old, working as a shipping clerk and living with his parents until later that summer when he took his bride, Martha Leonhardt.

Martha Leonhardt was ten years old when she arrived in Baltimore from Germany on May 9, 1889 on the S. S. Herman. She came with her parents Johann and Johanna Wilhelmina, sisters Anna age 12 and Selma age 8 and brother Robert age 4. Like the Hoppes, the Leonhardts made their way to Milwaukee. In 1897, they moved out to the village of Menomonee Falls. The Leonhardts had seven children, however, three died as infants before the trip to America.

Robert Hoppe and Martha Leonhardt were married in a Lutheran ceremony in Milwaukee on August 15, 1900. They took up residence at 1450 7th street, not far from his parents. To this union seven children were born. Laura bn. 1901, Ervin bn. 1902, Erna bn. 1904, Lydia bn. 1905, Robert, Jr. bn.1907, Margaretha bn. 1908, Helen bn. 1910.
Robert, who had completed the cittizenship process in 1906, was working as a packer in a hardware firm. In 1916 Margaret was seven years old when she died from scarlet fever. In 1917 Robert's father August Hoppe died from lobar pneumonia. On January 8, 1920, Martha Leonhardt-Hoppe died, she was three days shy of her 43rd birthday.

In 1922 Erna Hoppe meet her future husband, Frederick Dean Strathearn who was a veteran of WWI and was a clerk for the Phoenix Hosiery Company, a manufacturer of men's and ladies stockings in Milwaukee. They meet at a dance hall, Germania Hall on 3rd street. They married on February 9th, 1923, she had just turned 19 on February 4th. To this union three children were born, Marilyn bn. 1927, Julie bn. 1935, and Bruce bn. 1944.

In 1938 they moved to Meeker Hill, northwest of Menomonee Falls. In 1945 the family moved a little further north west, to Richfield. On December 13, 1947 Their daughter Marilyn was married to Kenneth Becker at St. Mary's Church in Menomonee Falls. To this union twelve children where born, with ten surviving until adulthood.

In 1954 their second daughter Julie was married to Curtis Umhoefer on January 30th, at the St. Boniface Church in Goldendale. To this union five children were born.

In 1955 Fred and Erna moved into Menomonee Falls and lived next door to Curt and Julie Umhoefer. On October 29, 1957
Fred died unexpectedly, they had been married thirty-four years.

On December 20, 1962 Erna's father Robert Hoppe died, he was eighty-four years old.

Bruce married Maral Peltekian on October 16, 1984 and to this union two sons were born.

On October 5th, 1995 Erna Hoppe-Strathearn died and is buried in Menomonee Falls. She is greatly missed by her children, grand children, and great-grand children.
