Rodney G. Wittstock of Clear Lake died early Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Amery Regional Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.

Rodney George Wittstock was born on March 15, 1939, in Amery, the son of George and Florence (VanRuden) Wittstock. Rodney grew up in the Clear Lake area and was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1957 and was active in baseball and track and was named all conference in football and basketball. After graduation he attended and played football for Superior College in Superior.

Rodney was married on Oct. 15, 1960 to Tamra Lou Scherz in Rice Lake. They made their home in Clear Lake where he dairy farmed for many years. Together they raised seven children, Wendy, Candy, Tina, Susan, Melanie, Rick, Robert and several other foster children.

In 1997, Rodney retired from dairy farming to raise beef cattle. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a loyal Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and especially like watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He attended East Lincoln Alliance Church of Amery.

In July of 2002, Rodney was diagnosed with lung cancer. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son Robert Bruce and his father George Wittstock.

He is survived by his wife Tamra Wittstock, Clear Lake; children, Wendy (Kenneth) Kolzow, Cumberland, Candy (Daniel) Kearney, Conrad, Iowa, Tina (Joe) Lunsmann, Chetek, Susan Sayeed, Luck, Melanie (Jason) Becker, Clear Lake, Rick (Carrie) Juleff, Clayton; grandchildren, Blake and Kayla Kolzow, Zachary and Amanda Kearney, Cassie, Bethany and Alicia Lunsmann, Brett and Ashley Juleff; mother Florence Wittstock, Clear Lake; sister Nancy (Loren) Wondrasch, Wabasha, Minn; nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were Sat. Feb. 15 at East Lincoln Alliance Church in Amery with Pastor Randy Schussman officiating. Music was provided by Lori Bodenner. Casketbearers were Wendell Christenson, Greg Hose, Denny Priebe, Spence Schnacky, Roger Swanson and Troy Wondrasch. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home of Amery assisted the family.
