I'm having a hard time figuring out if all these Josephs are the same.

Here's why I think my Joseph (same as Mary's Joseph, who has been posting here) could be the same:
--My family's records show my Joseph being born 25 March 1847 in Prussia. He married Cresentia Grace Wittman (numerous spellings) in 1868 in Michigan.
--I found a record online showing "Josephus Hammes" christened 28 March 1848 in Prussia (parents are listed as Petrus Ludovicus Hammes and Elisabetha Hammes). Could my Joseph have been christened a year later (yes, it's possible), or could our family have his birth year incorrect (yes, it's possible)?

Here's where things are confusing and I question if it's the same Joseph:
--The 1870 US Census shows a Joseph Hammes in Wisconsin. It shows he was born in Prussia in 1847 or 1848, but also lists him on the census with Margaret (age 50, also born in Prussia, could be this Joseph's mother), Ernest (15, born in WI), Mary (13, born in WI), Nicholas (11, born in WI), and Sabila (4, born in WI). My Joseph was married two years prior to the 1870 census and was living in MI, and his wife is not listed on this census record, so I know this one is not him. Because this Joseph was also born in 1847/1848 in Prussia, it makes figuring out who's who that much more confusing. This listed Joseph is not my Joseph, but the name/date/place adds to the questioning of which is which.

Do you have any documentation (more than the birth record I listed) of Joseph Hammes with Petrus and Elisabetha that may help sort this out? I don't want to jump to conclusions and list them as his parents without being sure.

Thank you!!
