Surnames: HESS, KANAGA, THOMPSON, WOOD
The will of JL WOOD of the town of Willow, Richland Co, WI, dated 25 Aug 1911, Jesse died 20 Dec 1913, age 85:

"I give and bequeath to my three children John F WOOD, Barbara L Kehage [sic] [should be KANAGA]
and Hettie THOMPSON, five dollars each."

"I give devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my property, of whatsoever name, nature or kind and wheresoever situate to my wife Elizabeth WOOD, (formerly HESS) her heirs and assigns, to have and to hold the same and every part thereof, to her my said wife Elizabeth WOOD, her heirs and assigns forever. This devise to take effect, whether any person shall claim or pretend that I have not been legally married to my said wife Elizabeth, or not and whether or not any person shall be successful or not in establishing such claim."

He appointed his friend Freredick Moyes of Cazenovia as sole executor

The inventory showed 4 parcels of land all in T11, R2E:
SW 1/4 of NW 1/4, Section 24 - $700
SE 1/4 of NE 1/4, Section 23 - $2000
NW 1/4 of SW 1/4, Section 24 - $400
SE 1/4 of SW 1/4, Section 24 - $325

2 beef cows - $85, 1 scrub bull 2 years old - 40, 5 cows graded Durham - 300, 21 sheep - 84, 6 hogs 4 months old - 58, 2 brude sows 42, 25 chickens - 8, 1 pair bobsleigh - 5, 1 wagon - 5, 1 mower - 5, 1 grain seeder - 10, 1 drag - 2, 1 plow - 1, 1 hay rake 12, 1/2 interst in 1 corn planter - 15

Loyd Cemetery has a listing for a William J WOOD 1866-1868, son of Jesse L & Eliz WOOD, although the 1900 census lists Elizabeth with a daughter Nettie 12 years old, stating that she has one of one children living, was William her son also? There is also a listing for Eliz WOOD, wife of Jesse 1845-____. Did Elizabeth remarry after Jesse died and is buried with her new husband, is she buried with other family members of her own family ???? Is she buried there and the year never got put on the stone ????

Elizabeth kept:
Homestead SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 24 - $2000
[this conflicts with the inventory above stating this parcel is $700]
household furniture - $150, 2 cows $150, 1 horse 22 years old - $70, 1 buggy - $10

There were no receipts for the $5 each for his three children although the $15 was listed on the final account.

I would conclude from this will that Jesse and Elizabeth never actually married, they had no surviving children, Jesse's 3 children from his first marriage must not have been on very good terms with their father as they only recieved $5 each.
