Mary Stein

Mary Fern Stein, age 85 of Spring Valley, WI died Saturday April 29, 1989 at the Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital in El Segundo, CA.

Mary was born October 4, 1903 at Oklahoma City, OK. to the late John and Laura (Lawrence) Williams. Her family moved to the Spring Valley area when Mary was about 2 years old. She attended the Spring Valley High School and was a graduate in the Class of 1922.

After high school Mary worked at Eau Claire for about a year. She moved to Ogden, UT. and lived with her sister Daisy and Russell Holmes. Mary worked at Yellowstone National Park during the summer for a number of years and also worked as a housekeeper and in a California hospital in food service during the winter.

Mary moved back the Spring Valley when she was in her late 20's and met and married Conrad Stein. They were married March 5, 1935 at Forest Lake, MN.

Conrad and Mary lived in Spring Lake Township until 1951 when they built their home in the Village of Spring Valley. Mary raised a family of seven children, and was also bookkeeper for her husband's business - Stein Electric and Skelgas Service. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Conrad in 1978, and three sisters, Alta, Daisy and Myrtle.

Survivors include her children, Eugene and his wife Nancy of Eagan, MN., Gale Stein and Dorothy Stein, both of El Segundo, CA., Larry and his wife Mary Rose of Windom, ME., James and his wife Kim of N. St. Paul, MN., and Patricia and her husband Charles Slezak of El Segundo, CA; 11 grandchildren, and other more distant relatives.

Visitation was held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, WI with funeral services Wednesday, May 3, 1989 at 1 p.m. at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, WI. with Rev. Dennis Creswell officiating. Burial was in Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
