Spring Valley Sun, May 21, 1931
Marie Regine Stein was born to Esten Stein and his wife January 1, 1856, in Lille Elvedalen, Norway. In March 1876, she came to America with her sister Anna, who died a couple of years later. With the exception of a few months after her arrival in this country, she has lived on the Adolf Stein farm in Spring Lake.
For several years she has been in declining health, but has been up and about. Friday morning, May 8, she was taken violently ill, and it soon became apparent that her days were numbered. Monday, May 11, her pastor, Rev. Berven, visited her and administered Holy Communion, and a few hours later she died.
Funeral was held from the home and the Spring Valley Lutheran Church Thursday, May 14, Rev Berven, officiating. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery.
Marie Stein was the last of five children. The only near relatives surviving her are five nephews and nieces - Dr. Edward Stein of Elmwood, Miss Hannah Stein of Chicago, and Edwin, Esten, Conrad and Alf Stein at home.
