Mrs. Kirsti Stamoen
Mrs. Kirsti Stamoen died at the home of Mrs. A. Beck in Spring Lake Sunday evening, March 22. The funeral was held from the Beck home Wednesday afternoon, March 25, Rev. Berven officiating. The body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the Spring Lake cemetery.
She was born Jan. 26, 1854 at Lille Elvedalen, Norway. On April 2, 1894, she married Erland Stamoen, who was back in Norway on a visit. A few days later they left for America, settling on the farm in Spring Lake which Mr. Stamoen had purchased some years before.
After her husband's death, which occurred Oct. 29, 1922, at the Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, she has lived alone most of the time in the old home. On her way home from a visit to Mrs. Beck Monday, Feb. 9, she fell on the icy road just north of the Spring Lake church, fracturing her hip; she was brought at once to the Beck home and a doctor summoned. Owing to her age and her rather frail condition little hope was entertained for her recovery. For the first four or five weeks, however, she seemed to improve every day, but then complications set in and after a few days her struggles were over. She reached the age of 71 years, one month and 24 days.
She is survived by two brothers and a sister in Norway - Andrew and John Dolhaug and Mrs. Mary Flaten.
