Marit Einund was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tron Elnund Nov. 22, 1858, In Alvdal, Norway. Her father died when she was a little child and she then went to live with her maternal aunt, Mrs. Mali Storstrom, with whom she made her home until 1877, when on Oct. 15 she married Ole A. Kaasen. The following spring (1878) they came to America. A year later Mr. Kaasen bought the land in the town of Spring Lake where the young couple built a home and where they have lived ever since.
Six children were born to them - three sons and three daughters of whom the following survive: Marie (Mrs. Wm. Johnson) of Twisp, Wash., and Albert, Herbert and Hilda at home, Edward died in infancy and Anna (Mrs. Gust Dahl), of Seattle, Wash., died several years ago.
The last 12 or 13 years Mrs. Kaasen has been in declining health but was able to be up and about almost to the very last. About three weeks ago her condition took a sudden turn for the worse and Sunday, Sept. 5, she died.
The funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran church Thursday, Sept. 9, Rev. Berven officiating. Special singing at the church furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. F. Nyeggen, of Baldwin. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery.
Besides her husband and children, is survived by six grandchildren, one of whom, Gwendolyn Dahl, was present at the funeral. Mrs. Andrew Nyeggen, who died several years ago, was a half sister of Mrs. Kaasen.
Mrs. Kaasenâ€™s death marks the passing of another of, the old settlers in Spring Lake. She will be missed, not only in her home, but also by her friends and neighbors by whom she was loved and respected. As a tribute to her memory Mr. Kaasen and family made a gift of $25 to the Spring Lake church and the Ladies Aid a gift of $5 to the missions of the Lutheran church. Other gifts in her, memory to the Spring Lake church, the missions, Stoughton Old Peopleâ€™s Home and radio station WCAL were made by Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Stein, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. F. Nyeggen, Mr. and Mrs. A. Harris and Harry and Ivy; Mrs. Anna Stein and family, Thore Anderson and family, Mrs. Marie Anderson; Mrs. A. Beck and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Timm.
