Herbert Thorvald Kaasen, age 79, died Saturday, April 19, 1975, at Memorial Hospital in Menomonie, WI., where he had been a patient for the past few days.
He was born Dec. 13, 1895, to the late Ole A. and Marit (Einund) Kaasen in Spring Lake Township, Pierce County, WI. He was a lifelong member of Spring Lake Lutheran Church.
During World War I, Mr. Kaasen had served his country for about three months with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post No. 207 in Elmwood, WI. and had served as Spring Lake Town Clerk for three years.
He had farmed in Spring Lake his entire life, in addition to his insurance service. The past four years he had been a resident at the Spring Valley Nursing Home.
Preceding him in death were: Two sisters, Marie (Mrs. Will Johnson) and Anna (Mrs. Gust Dahl); two brothers, Henry and Albert; and one nephew, Raymond Johnson.
Surviving are: His sister Hilda (Mrs. Si O.F. Stein) of Spring Valley, WI.; two nephews, Corvin C. Johnson of Bellingham, WA., and Frank Johnson of Seattle, WA.; and two nieces, Mrs. Gertrude Johnson of Brewster, WA. and Gwen (Mrs. K.W. Sawtelle) of Portland, ME.
Visitation was held Monday at the Keehr Funeral Home in Spring Valley, WI with funeral services Tuesday April 22, at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church. Rev. Roger Kampstra officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The Crain-Ottman American Legion Post No. 207 provided military honors at the graveside service.
