Mrs. Isabelle Bailey
Isabelle Hanson was born in Lille Elvedalen, Norway, May 9, 1854. At the age of 14 she came to the United States with her parents, settling in the town of Spring Lake where she grew to womanhood. March 9, 1873, she married Mead Bailey. Eight children were born to them - four sons and four daughters, of whom only a daughter and two sons survive; Mary Ellen (Mrs. Geo. Schultz) of Edgewater, and Mark and Guy, of Spring Valley.
In 1899 Mr. and Mrs. Bailey and children moved to Spring Valley, which has since been their home. Mr. Bailey died Dec. 20, 1923. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Bailey has been living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Crane, parents of Mrs. Guy Bailey.
In spite of declining health she was able to be up and about practically everyday until about three weeks ago; March 24 she suffered a severe apoplectic stroke and from the very first it was apparent that her death was only a matter of days. She was, however, conscious much of the time and was very thankful to her friends who came to see her. She died Sunday evening, April 1. Funeral was held Wednesday April 4, Rev. Berven officiating. A brief service was first held at the Tousley undertaking parlors and from there the body was taken to the Spring Lake Lutheran church, where the main service was held. She was buried beside her husband in the Spring Lake cemetery.
Besides her three children she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Carrie Johnson of Spring Lake, and three brothers, H. P. Hanson of Spring Valley, Ole P. Hanson of Rock Elm, and John P. Hanson of Emerald. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a host of more distant relatives.
