Would anyone know of an Indian settlement south of Maiden Rock along the Mississippi River during the later part of the 1800's? I have found a couple of obituaries stating the individual was born in the Indian settlement near Maiden Rock but I cannot find them on a federal census.

After in 1862 uprising in Minnesota, the "hostilies" were exiled from the state and sent to Crow Creek, Nebraska. Those who were consider "loyal to the United States government," protected whites from being killed, or did not join the uprising were allowed to stay. Most were mixed-bloods and they did not assimilate well with the european immigrants who became settlers in the new lands in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Any information, clue, rumor or anything that might get me searching in the right place would be appreciated.

Thank you.
