I made no real progress on this until January, 2012, when I started using the records of baptisms, marriages, and death records from County Laois (then named County Queens). Those records had recently been put online at rootsireland.ie. In case you haven't used it, it requires an upfront deposit in advance, from which it subtracts a fee for each record viewed. Its index is free and is well-designed and flexible. You have to be flexible about spelling of names and think phonetically.
I found the following records from County Queens which seem very likely to be of our Gorey family:
1. Marriage of Barney Gorey and Honor Connor, in Mountmellick Roman Catholic ("RC") parish on July 1, 1816, other info limited to surnames of their fathers.
2. Baptism or birth (not clear which) of Esther Gurry (spelled that way), Port Arlington RC parish,on April 27, 1822. Parents Barney Gurry and Honor Connor. Sponsors James Gurry and Mary Dowling.
3. Baptism or birth of Margaret Gurry on February 1, 1830 in Mountmellick RC Parish. Parents Barney Gurry and Honor Connor. No sponsors listed.
4. Baptism or birth of John Gurry on February 1, 1833, in Mountmellick RC Parish. Parents Barney Gurry and Honor Connor. No sponsors listed.
This doesn't include all their children, but it's a start, and I was excited to find these records.
