Ambrose Schwab, 65, passed away at his home here Wednesday, after a lingering illness. He was one of the old residents of this village, having been born and raised in this community. Mr. Schwab was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schwab, both of whom died a number of years ago. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Kautzer about thirty-seven years ago. They settled on a farm west of this village and resided there until the time of Mr. Schwab's death. He is survived by his wife, three children, Leo and Mrs. August Leonard of Sheboygan, Mrs. Richard Flechsig of Milwaukee, two brothers, John and Joseph of Washington, and one sister, Mrs. Katie Weiss of Chicago. Funeral services were held from St. Gregory's church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Fintan Holzknecht sang a requiem mass and officiated at the short services at the cemetery adjoining the church. The Catholic Knights, of whom Mr. Schwab was a member, attended the services in a body.
The following from out of town attended the funeral of Ambrose Schwab: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Flechsig and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Roeming of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. August Leonard and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Garthoeffner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lutz, and Mrs. Martin Lutz of Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kautzer of Kiel; Mr. and Mrs. C. Lutzke of Liberty; Mr. and Mrs. August Schwalbe and Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Schwalbe of near Chilton.
Correction Postnote: My research indicates that his death date was approx. February 15. The news article gives the impression that he died one day before the newspaper issue - February 22nd. Some of the people mentioned in the obituary and their relationships are: Ambrose Schwab was an uncle to Joseph Garthoeffner, Mrs. Martin (Mayme) Lutz, and Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Lutz. I have also found records indicating that his wife's maiden name may have been spelled: Kautza.
