Death of Christian Christianson

Mr. Christian Christianson, an old and respected citizen of the town of Wyoming, departed this life Saturday, January 30, 1915, at the ripe old age of 84 years, 4 months, and 14 days. He was born at Thorpen, Norway, August 16, 1830. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at the parish church at Thorpen and remained a faithful and loyal Christian until his dying day. He was married December 6, 1850, a union which lasted 63 years, his aged life partner dying July 5, 1913. Mr. Christianson came to America June 5, 1882, and the following year, through the kindness of Bennett Westland and O. Gilbertson, who furnished him the necessary money, he was able to send for his dear family across the sea, who arrived July 3, 1883. The first few years were spent in the Otter Creek neighborhood but later he bought and cleared a farm in the town of Wyoming, where he remained with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Christianson, until called to the home over yonder with God.

Mr. Christianson was a man of a gentle and peaceful disposition, a splendid neighbor, a tender husband, and an affectionate father. He leaves to his children a goodly heritage of a beautiful and useful Christian life, a good name and reputation. He was a loyal member of the Dodgeville Lutheran Church, and a regular attendant at services until old age and infirmities overtook him. The following children are left to mourn the loss of their beloved father: Mrs. Helen Johnson, Wyoming, Ole Christianson, Mrs. Anton Olson, Ridgeway, Mrs. John Johnson, Blue Mounds, Mrs. Theodore Olson, Mt. Horeb, Christ Christianson and Martin Christianson, Wyoming. There are 33 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who will all miss the afffectionate and dear grandfather. The funeral was held from the home in Wyoming, Thursday, Feb. 4th, Rev. P.J. Nestande officiating.
