Hi Doug: We too have been researching the Ellis family. We've traced back to Joseph Ellis who was born 1779 in VA. Some records indicate he was married to Elizabeth but this info was incorrect....I don't think Elizabeth's last name was correct.Washington Ellis (who is resting in the Vesterman cemetery) was born Apr 14,1807 in VA and died May 7, 1890 in Potosi, Grant co, Wi. of paralysis His first wife was Elizabeth Blankenshi and his second wife was Agnes Smith. William Riley Ellis was one of the children of Washington and Elizabeth. Joel was the son of Washington and Agnes Smith and he is also in the Vesperman farm cemetery in South Lancaster. A year ago, Ernie Brindley from Indiana visited the Vesperman farm and the cemetery wasn't being maintained and he cleaned it up and got in contact with the local township and they said they would try to maintain it in the future. Hopefully this is now being done. Ernie is a distant cousin and also has family tree information. Sue Cummins has extensive information about the Ellis family as does Dave Taft. I'm still trying to find out who Joseph's wife was and who Joseph's parents were and where they were from.....currently I think Joseph's family may have immigrated from Wales.
