Head Of Large Family. Married Nearly 61 Years

Peter Schliesmann passed away at the family home, 915 Briggs street, at 1:20 a. m.Wednesday. Mr. Schliesmann had been in poor health for many years. He had a stroke of paralysis about seven years ago and had been in failing health ever since. He was 85? years of age.
Mr. Schliesmann was born in Hesse, Germany, and came to this country in his nineteenth year. He settled in a farm in Columbia county from which he moved about forty-three years ago and canm to Portage county, settling on a farm near Ellis. There he stayed the greater part of his life. About sixteen years ago he retired from farming and moved to this city, locating at 915 Briggs street.
Mr. Schliesmann leaves, besides his wife, three daughters and two sons, F. Schliesmann of Rhinelander, Mrs. John Eiden of Custer, Mrs. August Oesterle of Polonia, Mrs. Martin Welch of Stockton and Henry Schliesmann who resides on the family homestead near Ellis. He also leaves twenty-two grandchildren, including Mrs. George Allen and Miss Frances Oesterle of this city, and three great grandchildren, George, Nicholas and Walter who are sons of Mr. and Mrs. George Allen of this city.
Mr. Schliesmann and wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary ten years ago and last June celebrated their diamond wedding, their sixtieth anniversary, at St. Martin's church, at Ellis.
The body of Mr. Schliesmann was taken to the old homestead Thursday morning and the funeral was held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from Stl. Martin's church with interment in St. Martin's cemetery, Father Bartelme of Custer officiating.
