James Stanton married by 1795 Elizabeth, widow of Robert Judkins who left his will in Surry dated 1693.

On October 3, 1695, at Surry County, Virginia, Court Order

Book 1691-1700, page 142, John Edwards and Joseph Rogers gave security for James Stanton:

"Att a Court held at Southwarke for the County of Surry Xbr.
3d. 1695. Present Mr. Ben. Harrison, Mr. Fran. Mason, Mr.
Wm. Browne, Mr. John Thompson.

John Edwards and Joseph Rogers presenting themselves in
Court security for James Stanton his due paymt . of ye.
Estates of Wm. and Robt. Judkins theire parts of theire
deced. f father Robt. Judkins Estate they are accepted &
Ordered yt . they give bond accordingly."

See Judkins research at and and the Thomas Pitman research by Forrest King at There are some errors in the Judkins research. Robert Judkins' parents were Samuel Judkins I and Lydia, but Lydia -- Judkins could NOT be Lydia Gray, dau of William Gray I. Lydia Gray, dau of William Gray I, was mentioned as a sister in the will of John Gray (a proven son of William Gray I) dated 1708. Lydia, the widow of Samuel Judkins I, m2 Thomas Pitman and died by 1678. It is still possible that Lydia -- Judkins Pittman was a Gray since there are later records in the Judkins family that point to a Gray connection, but there is no record that actually proves Samuel Judkins' wife Lydia was a Gray. *IF* Lydia was a Gray, she was born so early that she would almost have to have been a dau of Thomas Gray.

Robert Judkins d 1693 named a daughter Elizabeth. She m1 Thomas Holt, then m2 John Jones who moved from Surry to Edgecombe, NC where he left his will.
