Christmas exercises were held at the Baptist church here Monday afternoon, Dec. 26.
Mrs. Weedon Cloe* and two children, spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Haile, in Essex County.
Miss Lelia Lynn, of Washington, spent the holidays with her mother, Mrs. Ben Lynn here.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stevens, and Fred, jr., of Fredericksburg, motored up and spent part of the week with Mrs. Stevens' parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Garrison.**
Herbert Tolson visited his sister, Mrs. Amy Weedon in Fredericksburg during the holidays.
Everette Keys [sic] who is attending high school in Maryland, spent the holidays here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Keyes.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Tolson and two children, of Washington, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marian Toyson [sic] here last week.
Mrs. Benn Lynn visited her daughter, Mrs. Norman Luck, in Essex a few days last week.
Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Garrison, accompanied by their daughter and son-in-law and grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stevens, spent last Monday over in Dumfries visiting Mrs. Garrison's sister, Mrs. Hampton McInteer and other relatives.
Miss Mary Cloe, teacher from Stage Road, spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Cloe here.
Miss Lois Duffey*** spent part of last week in Washington visiting relatives and friends.
Shacklet was a community in Stafford County, Virginia. Its geographical coordinates are 38° 31' 55" North, 77° 26' 48" West. It appears (in 2014) to be part of the Chopawamsic Backcounty Area. I would be interested to know why the community disappeared.
*Ancestry.com says that William Weedon Cloe was born on 12 June 1898 to Richard Arthur Cloe and Mary Lee Weedon. He married Elizabeth Haile, and they had 3 children. He died on 8 January 1947. **G. R. Garrison was George Robert Garrison, Find A Grave Memorial# 15886709. His wife, Mary McLearen (Find A Grave Memorial# 15887026) came from a large family. Their daughter Pearle (Find A Grave Memorial# 110987340) married Fred Stevens.
***This probably is Lois Duffey, daughter of Ernest G. Duffey, who later married Robert M. Patton.
