I used to spend summers in Mobjack in the 50s at the home of my grandmother, Eva White Machen, who lived catty-corner across the road from Coles and Mary Hudgins' place, on a point in Mobjack directly across the road from Grace Methodist church. I have quite vivid memories of Cap'n George Philpotts, who was Mary Hudgins' father, sipping iced tea at Sunday School picnics on the vast Hudgins lawn. Philpotts Wharf, referred to in another post, was the "downtown" (the use of the term is almost laughable) wharf of Mobjack, where we kids would watch oyster boats unload -- or jump off their high decks into the water on a dare. Alas, the wharf (and pretty much all of "old Mobjack") is gone now. Time and waterside development have homogenized the area so that it looks not at all like the Mobjack I remember.
