Hi Wiley,

Your information has the wrong Clarissa Jarrell as Joseph Taylor's wife, and the wrong Zachariah Taylor as Joseph's father.

The Clarissa Jarrell who married Joseph Taylor was a daughter of John Jarrell and Ann "Nancy" Spoldin. [Source: MDB13:434] This Clarissa was a sister of Tabitha who married Abraham Jarrell (with a daughter Clarissa).

Clarissa Jarrell the daughter of Abraham Jarrell (son of Jeremiah Jarrell Sr.) and Tabitha Jarrell (daughter of John Jarrell) was born 5 Feb 1823, Madison Co, VA. She had one sibling, Abraham L. Jarrell, born June 1825. Their father Abraham Jarrell died January 1826 in Madison Co, VA. [All dates proved by NARA Rev War Pension File No. W7874] Abraham's widow Tabitha (Jarrell) Jarrell married Chesley Rogers 15 Oct 1830 in Orange Co, VA, and died about 1845 in Fayette Co, IN.

Clarissa Jarrell (b. c1795), wife of Joseph Taylor and daughter of John Jarrell, died between 1860-1870 in Greene Co, VA.

Joseph Taylor was born 1 Jul 1794 in ORANGE Co, VA, and died January 1870 in Madison Co, VA while living with his son Evan T. Taylor.

Joseph and Clarissa Jarrell Taylor had two known children:
1) EVAN T. TAYLOR - b. Abt. 1826, Orange Co, VA; d. Bet. 1880 - 1900, Greene Co, VA
m. Abt. 1852, Madison or Greene Co, VA to Mary Susan May (b. Oct. 1831; d. Aft. 1900, Greene Co, VA; daughter of Noel May and Alevy Eddins)
2) JAMES M. TAYLOR - Abt. 1828, Orange Co, VA; d. Bet. 1870-1880, Madison Co, VA - never married

Joseph Taylor's parents were Zachariah Taylor (1760-1845) and Susannah Jarrell (1772-c1858). Susannah was a daughter of James Jarrell "Sr" who was a brother of John Jarrell and Jeremiah Jarrell (as well as a brother of Daniel Jarrell, Richard Jarrell Sr., and Alexander Jarrell Sr.). All were sons of James Jarrell the Elder, d. 1762-1782, Culpeper Co, VA.

BUT Joseph Taylor's father ZACHARIAH TAYLOR was not, most definitely NOT, the son of Zachary Taylor and Esther Blackburn.

That's been a long-perpetuated myth and is ONLY myth. The latter Zachary was of the elite Virginia Taylor family descending from the wealthy James Taylor "The Immigrant," including President Zachary Taylor. They had NO known relationship to this Zachariah Taylor OR to the other Taylors who intermarried with Virginia Jarrells beginning in the 1780s. (I beg you to remove the wrong parents from Zachariah--I've gotten irate e-mails from descendants of the elite Taylors thinking that was my claim, but that never came from me--and they're right, it's wrong!)

Although there is abundant proof of who the Jarrell-related Zachariah Taylor's parents were not, for now we can't completely prove who they were. However, there are definite leads in the records, and hopefully we will be able to find sufficient documentation. People are sticking the Jarrell-related Taylors with every Taylor in the area (including Charles Taylor of Madison Co, VA), and there's proof that so far they're all wrong!

This is a quick run-down of John and Ann Spoldin Jarrell's children (all daughters). These are their ONLY children as proved by a deed from John's heirs dated 8 Oct 1838. [Source: Madison Deed Book 13, p.434]

Elizabeth Jarrell m. James Slaughter
Lucy Jarrell m. David Shoals
Susan Jarrell m. James Jarrell (son of John's brother Jeremiah Jarrell and wife Sarah Sims)
Clarissa Jarrell m. Joseph Taylor
Bathsheba Jarrell - never married
Tabitha Jarrell m1 Abraham Jarrell (son of John's brother Jeremiah); m2 Chesley Rogers.

Hope this helps.
