Surnames: Ward, Cannaday, Canaday, Kennedy, Kenneday, Smith
Franklin County Will Book #1, page 76, states that an inquisition into the death of JOHN WARD took place at the plantation of WILLIAM KENADAY on 21 January 1793 & recorded February Court; that JOHN WARD was killed by JOSEPH SMITH; that oaths were sworn about the incident by David Barton, John Peak, Wm. Robison, Geo. Staten, John Via, Wm. Thorp, Peter Sickman, Wm. Moore, Wm. Oaks, John Carter, Isaac Ginnis, & Wm. Stevens at Franklin County; that said Joseph Smith was taken into custody for hitting John Ward on the head with a stone of some such object & that Ward was not propertly attended to.

Does anyone know anything more about JOHN WARD or this WILLIAM KENNADAY? One researcher has speculated that John Ward was married to Nancy Kennaday, daughter of William Kennaday & that John & Nancy had four children named: William, Daniel, Elizabeth, & Mary Polly.

Am interested in any connection between John Ward & Daniel Ward (died 1826, Franklin Co., VA) who was married to Elizabeth (Boling) or to Benjamin Ward or Richard Ward or Mary Obedience Ward who married a Mr. Kennedy/Canady & then removed at some time to Hart County, Kentucky or thereabouts.

Thank you.
