Thomas Hardaway Mitchell is buried in Walton County, Mitchell Cememtery, HWY 11 2 miles north of Social Circle Ga on the right. He and his wife ,Mary are buried there next to my GGG Grandmother, Jedidah Perkins Mitchell. Thomas was born in 1793 Dinwiddie County, Va and died in 1853. He had acquire a large plantation in Walnut Grove, Ga and was one of the founding fathers of that city. His son is Capt Jett Thomas Mitchell, CO of 42nd Ga Infantry , CO H.
Thomas is tholdest son of John Henry Mitchell. He is brother to James H. Mitchell and Jesse Mitchell who was the Judge of Walton CO. 1856 to 1872. Jesse is buried with Thomas. I am a descendant of James H. Mitchell. There were 6 members of this family that fought during the Civil War. There are 6 cemeteries in Walton County that hold 165 graves of Mitchells. James H. was born in 1803, Jesse 1800. James H Mitchells son, William Thomas Mitchell was killed after the battle of Griswoldeville near Macon , Ga on Shermans March to the Sea. Nov 22, 1864 wounded, died Jan 10 1865 and was buried in Rose HIll Cemetery on Jan 11, 1865. He is nephew to Thomas Hardaway Mitchell. I would eexpect that there are at least 4 or 5 more siblings of Thomas Hardaway Mitchell. He is the oldest, and only one born of John Henry Mitchells children that was born in Va.
