Martha Juanita Mabe Cole passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at Burke County Hospice & Palliative Care.
Born July 9, 1924 in Galax, Virginia, she was the daughter of Charlie Thomas and Mary Jane Snow Mabe.
Mrs. Cole taught in the Burke County and Elkin City school systems.
She was preceded in death by brother, Edgar Mabe, sisters Lillie Cooley, Elva Mabe, Piercy Stewart, Maggie Hill and Eloise Hanks.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, L.D. Cole, Sr.; by daughter Jane Brown and daughter Sue Setzer and husband Jim, all of Connelly Springs; by sons L.D. Cole, Jr. and wife Kay of Mebane, and Alan Cole and wife Patti of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are grandchildren Sandra Davis, Fredrick Rankins, Leslie Brown, Ryan Cole, Ross Cole, Stanford Cole, Christopher Brown, Carrie Walker, Anna Bowland and great-grandchildren Ethan Davis, Tanner Davis, Gavin Dietz, Macie Brown, and Landon Cole. She is also survived by sisters Edna Cline and Bertie St. John.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Connelly Springs with entombment to follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
