Surnames: Ross Davis Harvey Lakin Millis Willis Crittenden McDonald
Here is my line of VA Ross men with dates:

William Ross (? abt. 1700, said to be from Ireland, lived in VA)
father of
Robert Ross (1 May 1728 - 14 Sep 1790, m. to Mary McDonald, Sarah Crittenden)
father of
Samuel Ross (my estimate, abt. 1770?, m. to "Miss Scott")

John Robert Ross (17 Dec 1774 - 11 Nov 1857, m. to Mary Harvey DAVIS 24 Dec 1777-11 Nov 1857) *Their granddaughter Sarah Jane LAKIN m. James STEWART (21 May 1818 - 13 Mar 1876); this might be the JS referenced in the book title.
father of:
John Davis "Jack" Ross (24 May 1808 - 20 Aug 1894, first judge of Boyd Co., KY, and a member of the state legislature)

The generations after that were born in KY. William from Ireland is a fairly shadowy figure with regards to documentation, but the line after that is, I believe, named correctly. I have absolute faith in the naming of Mary Harvey Davis as John Robert's wife, something I don't say lightly. Growing up, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit, correspond, and compare notes with many of the judge's grandchildren and their cousins, as well as many from the area whose families allied with this one through marriages, neighborly familiarity, and business. This included my grandfather, cousin Ida Lee Millis Willis (former first lady of KY), and dear sharp-minded cousin Greenville Bolt Ross who died in 1975 at the age of 99. There was complete agreement on the names as listed above.

Another family member, another generation removed from the judge, who had a deep interest in the family history (and used to post on these boards; I do not know her current status) gave me the photocopied pages I mentioned in my other post on this board, as well as additional information and research tips. After my other post, I went hunting for the title of the book from which the copied pages came, and I finally located it last night:
_James Stewart Family, of Early Augusta County, Virginia and descendants 1740-1960_, Copyright, 1966 Amelia, Virginia - McClain Printing Company, Parsons, West Virginia, 318 pages, Author Florence S Dickerson.

A quick online search showed this book has been discussed widely on genealogy boards, and it has some errors, but the pages given to me had been "vetted" well by my fellow family researcher, and she added some corrections and notes. The marriage of Davis to Ross passed her inspection. I note there are also Harvey and Davis middle names among the Rosses that followed.
