Willa Lucille Thornock Kennedy, 88, of Randolph, Utah, passed away March 2, 2006, at Legacy House in Logan.

She was born in Rigby, Idaho, the oldest child to Aden W. and Lucille Moffat Thornock. The Thornocks moved to Randolph while Willa was in high school. She graduated from South Rich High School and LDS Seminary in 1936.

She attended Brigham Young University, and she graduated with high honors in 1940 with a degree in home economics. She was executive secretary for the Wyoming Nutrition Committee, a USDA war appointment.

During high school, Willa met her lifelong sweetheart, Sheldon L. Kennedy. After an 11-year courtship, which included school, mission and military service, they were married Aug. 23, 1944, while Sheldon was home on furlough. They settled in Randolph.

Willa was a homemaker. She was very skilled in homemaking, cooking and sewing. She enjoyed genealogy, especially compiling family histories and books of remembrance.

She served as clerk of Selective Services in Rich County from 1956 to 1959. She taught in the Rich School District from 1962 to 1980. She was a wonderful teacher who went far above and beyond the required expectations. Willa taught 4-H for many years. She led her clubs to excellence. She also served on the Rich County Fair Board. Willa’s community service was commendable. She was active in the community and served on many boards.

Willa has also been active in Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP). She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in various callings. Willa is a very caring, ambitious woman who has accomplished much during her life. It is obvious to those who know her how much service was a part of her life.

She is survived by her children, Joe (Dorothy) Kennedy of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kaye (Ross) Jacobson of Nibley, John (Peggy) Kennedy of Gilbert, Ariz., and Ken (Nancy) Kennedy of Brigham City, Utah; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kay (Kathleen) Thornock of Randolph and Russell Thornock of Cokeville, Wyo.; and sister, Lois Ann Brown of Farson, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Sheldon L. Kennedy.

Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday, March 8, at the Randolph LDS Ward chapel. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crandall Funeral Home, and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the Randolph church. Interment will be at the Randolph City Cemetery.

The family wants to express appreciation to the caregivers at Providence Assisted Living, Logan House and IHC Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Primary Children’s Hospital or LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
